January 19, 2021
Dear Campanelli Community,
We have officially kicked off the New Year with “the future is bright” spirit week! My favorite day was Kindness Day when we saw ripples of kindness being spread around Campanelli. One student wrote a message of gratitude to each of her classmates, one teacher brought treats to her team, students shared kind messages of gratitude with their teachers and some staff provided breakfast for our entire staff. We know the future is bright for our Cougars and we look forward to continued success in 2021!
Mrs. O’Donoghue’s superstars in room 112 show off their spirit!

Winter In-Person MAP Assessment
This winter we will test second through eighth grade students using the MAP assessment tool.  The computer-based assessment will be administered to students in person based on the day/time assigned below because we know that the most reliable administration and data point comes when students are tested in person. The purpose of the assessment is to inform teachers of the immediate instructional needs of students. MAP results equip educators with key data to help personalize instruction and pinpoint individual student needs.
With the testing being in-person on assigned days/times it will be important for the school to partner with families to help this process be as successful as possible.

Important Details on the Winter MAP Assessment:
  • Students will test in group sizes of 11 or less with a minimum of 6 feet of social distance.
  • Masks will be required.
  • Hybrid students will test on an in-person day.
  • Parents or caregivers of remote only students will be responsible for transporting students to and from school on their testing day/time.
  • Communication to remote students regarding the date and time of the assessment will be coming from the school and sent in the mail.
  • Students will complete both the literacy and math MAP test on the same day.
  • MAP testing does require great focus and stamina on the part of the students; therefore on the days your child is testing there will not be additional instruction.
We ask that remote families email (MichellePikscher@sd54.org) or call ((847) 357-5333) the main office to confirm or decline testing by Friday, January 22. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher, the main office or myself for more details.

Student Attendance Tracking
Your student’s daily attendance in virtual learning is key to their continued success at Campanelli. Students who are absent miss a great deal of classroom instruction.  Regular, daily attendance is a key factor for school success and is required by law. Unnecessary absence from school may have a negative effect on a student’s attitude, work habits, and progress.  To support student attendance, we will continue to track your student’s attendance.  Our priority is to work with our families to support their child’s attendance in school.  If families are struggling with supporting their child with attendance and work completion, please make sure to contact us at 847-357-5333 for assistance. We understand that some students are struggling at this time and we want to work as a team for their success.
