In celebration of Taiwanese American Heritage Week today some of our students participated in a special event. Campanelli was fortunate to have a delegation of cultural artists and masters from Taiwan here to share their talents and gifts with our students. The students learned a little about traditional weaving, ornament making, old fashioned toys, origami, and dough figurines. All and all the children who attended this event had a wonderful time learning a little more about the Chinese culture.
We want to give a special thank you to the McDonalds on Schaumburg and Barrington Roads. Through their generosity, Campanelli has received a $250 donation to support student activities here at Campanelli.
Today Campanelli students participated in a special 50th anniversary assembly. Highlights from today’s assembly include showing the students the items which are being placed into a new time capsule to be opened 20 years from now as well as students demonstrating dances from each of Campanelli’s decades. We ended our assembly with the whole school dancing the Cupid Shuffle.
I would like to thank our 50th Anniversary planning committee. We have had a wonderful year celebrating our special year.
Tonight our Early Childhood families came back to school for a special literacy night. They enjoyed fun activities in the gymnasium and a special bedtime snack! A fun time was had by all.
What could make eating ice cream better? Reading a book at the same time of course!
Tonight we held our annual Celebrate Reading and Writing with our PTA Ice Cream Social. Both events were a huge success filling the school with parents and children excited about the accomplishment of the children. It is always amazing to read the very creative stories that our young authors write.
I would like to thank the teachers and our parent volunteers that made this a great night for the students and their families.
Tonight Campanelli hosted another hugely successful Math Scavenger Hunt. The children had a great time working their way through the school following math clues until they found the prize. This is another wonderful event brought to you by the Campanelli PTA.
The students and I would like to say thank you to Mr. Lafyatis and Mrs. Narain for once again organizing this great event!
Recently Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Steffens, and Mrs. Pettinger said to a group of students that they should “roll up their sleeves and get a little dirty.” Well the students took them up on their offer and became part of a new after school club. The Gardening Club has recently taken on the responsibility of cleaning up the front of the school. I am totally impressed with the amount of work and cleanup that the students have accomplished. I have to say that equally amazing was the size of some of the weeds that the students dug out. All this hard work will quickly make Campanelli the best looking school in the whole district!

I want to thank all of the students and parents that came out for our first ever third / fourth grade gym night. This event was a huge success! Mrs. Mondul introduced activities and ways for the students to stay active and get a workout in or out of school. She also taught the parents a little about the fitness test that students take each year.
Safety is a top priority in all District 54 schools. Last Friday, November 18th, we practiced a safety drill called a Hard Lockdown Drill with our students and two representatives from the Police Department. Our goal is to make sure that the students know how to respond if this, or any other safety drill needs to be used to ensure their safety. A hard lock down would be used if there was a direct threat to the safety of our students at school.
I want to tell you that our students performed the Hardlock drill expectations flawlessly!
Thank you to the teachers that prepared our students so that this practice drill was a teachable moment and not a scary experience.
