Campanelli Updates December 2011

Posted Friday, December 16th, 2011 by Mr. Kern

The staff and I would like to wish each of you a wonderful
holiday and winter vacation.  We hope that you have the opportunity to
reconnect with family and friends as well as some time to relax.

Did you know…?

  • Campanelli was featured on the district website http://sd54.org/2011/12/campanelli-becomes-sister-to-school-in-china/
  • This is the time of the year when we will soon be having snow and ice.  Please remember to be safe when walking and driving to school.  Our maintenance and custodial crews try very hard to keep up with snow and ice removal.  The weather conditions sometimes make this task difficult to accomplish.  Please know that we are working to keep everyone safe.
  • Students will continue to go outside for recess whenever the temperature, including the wind chill factor, is 0 or above. Students who would like to play in the snow at recess time will need to have snow pants, boots, gloves, etc.  We want the students to play and have
fun, and not be soaking wet after playing outside.
  • Attached you will find the PBIS Parent Survey Results[1].  We had an impressive 65% of the parents return the survey.  This is yet another indication about the WONDERFUL community that makes up Campanelli.  The Positive Behavior Intervention System program has provided the students with the tools and the knowledge to make right choices which
help them to be successful in school and in life.  Please let us know if you have any questions about the survey results.
  • We have recently started a new feature on our website.  Staff and students are writing articles which spotlight the wonderful things happening at Campanelli.  Please be sure to go to our website regularly to read these wonderful articles.
  • Campanelli Elementary School participated in The Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive this Holiday Season.   Families and students donated pajamas of all sizes which were then given to children in need throughout the country.  Scholastic Book Clubs matched each pair of pajamas with a book donation made directly to the Pajama Program National Headquarters.
  • Winter vacation starts at the end of today.  Sessions will begin again on Tuesday, January 3rd.

See you in the New Year!

We are starting a new segment for our website.  We will be publishing articles written by teachers and students to help spotlight the wonderful things going on at Campanelli.

The following is an article written by our Mural Masters club, and their teacher Miss Holton.

Have you heard of Mural Masters??  We have been painting frames in Mr. Kern and Ms. Howard’s offices.  They wanted to have cool permanent frames painted onto the walls, so the kids in Mural Masters took up the challenge.  We started the project by brainstorming a list of ideas for interesting and unique frames.  We are currently in the process of painting the frames on the walls! We are also learning about what commissioned artwork is and how to enlarge images on a wall using stencils that we create.  We have been having fun working together as a team.  Be sure to check out our awesome frames as you walk by Mr. Kerns’ windows in the upcoming months.

Mural Masters is a group of Campanelli students who join with Ms. Holton in bringing the gift of art to Campi’s walls.  We meet on Mondays after school.  There are many reasons that we have created this club.  Some of the reasons are:

“I love doing artwork and always wanted to paint a mural.” –Breezy, 3rd grade

“We make murals to make art for everyone to enjoy, plus I love art!!”  – Katie, 3rdgrade

“I love to draw!” – Connor, 6th grade

“Campi could use some color on its walls!”  – Derek, 3rd grade

“So I can have fun every Monday after school” – Daniela, 3rd grade

“Being in Mural Masters gives me the opportunity to paint on walls which is a very fun privilege.” – Julia, 5th grade

“I like art and sketching.” – Ashish, 4th grade
